Their offspring might look something like Rotkäppchen, a magical English/German two-piece who play live electronic music and look like they’ve stepped straight out of a fairy tale. Annie and Ian aka Rotkäppchen combine laptop, synths and several technical devices with live drums (played by Annie) to create non-stop danceable bassy electro sets – making them a mixture of live band and live DJs. 5 piece Vadoinmessico have recently supported Anna Calvi at her London shows, and released their debut single ‘Curling Up Your Spine’ via Outcaste Records/PIAS to much on-line interest and anticipation. The band members hail from Italy, Mexico, Austria and the UK. The combined influences create a blissful blend of psychedelia, tropical guitar riffs and beautiful melodies full of nostalgia and longing. The live show is awesome – last year the band graced the stages of SXSW, Secret Garden Party, In The Woods Festival, Lounge On The Farm Festival, Harvest at Jimmy’s Festival and are now looking to tour again having spent the last 6 months writing and recording their debut album

BURNT TOAST
Whilst it’s relatively easy these days to find new things, it’s rare to find new things which deserve such a definition in any philosophical sense. Burnt Toast the product of Adrian Lawrence’s detour thorough his own life puts everything on trial and demands answers, newness becomes a demand and freshness the result of an artist seeking the truth. I make no apologies for such a poetic introduction there is simply is no other way to introduce a poet! But anyone yet to hear this new album would be wrong to interpret such introductions as preparing the way for difficult and obscure listening. This couldn’t be further from the truth; Adrian eloquently fuses the lethal observational skills of a Raymond Chandler detective with the subtleties and unsurpassed surgical spirits of a Martin Hannett production circa Joy Division and Section 25. The result is an infectious cocktail of American paranoia, Canadian objectivity and a very English obsession of introspection and the fly on the wall documentary.
